Sun-Sentinel adds to the decline of journalism

Click link above for Bob Norman's Pulp post on the hometown paper axing its movie critic, right after she gets a big-shot award for her work.

The Sun-Sentinel is transferring resident film critic Phoebe Flowers to another writing assignment and will not be running in-house movie reviews in the future. Instead, they'll be running retreads from Tribune Company heavyweights like the L.A. Times, Chicago Tribune, and Newsday.

And there are murmurings that this could be a Tribune Company-wide trend that could kill local movie coverage in a number of Tribune newspaper towns.

Tribune, you suck.

The comments are a pretty good back and forth on the fate of newprint. Had to make a few jabs myself.

Hillary and Wal-Mart

from NYTimes. Photo credit: Richard Berquist for shot of the 1990 board.

In Mrs. Clinton’s complex relationship with Wal-Mart, there are echoes of the familiar themes that have defined much of her career: the trailblazing woman unafraid of challenging the men around her; the idealist pushing for complicated, at times expensive, reforms; and the political pragmatist, willing to accept policies she did not agree with to achieve her ends.

Few more thoughts here.
